Farmers

TOG,took root in 1988 when a group of neighboring organic fruit and vegetable family farmers discussed the possibility of joining forces in the marketing of their products.  By working together, they could coordinate crop production to complement one another rather than compete. The family farmers could enjoy economies of scale in shipping and selling. In the coming season, TOG will work with over 28 member  producers and 17 non-member producers to bring a projected 100,000 cases of produce from farm to city, offering locally grown, certified organic produce all 12 months of the year.

This certified USDA Farm is located only 30 minutes from DC. Co-Farm Manager at Our House, Stephanie Jones’ admiration of Hawthorne’s “persistence inspired us to set up a system where we could deliver bi-weekly to local restaurants in the DMV area”.  Hawthorne was the first on their list in DC to receive a bi-weekly delivery of their amazing organic produce which includes, Russian Kale, Spinach, a variety of herbs, potatoes, garlic, scallions, free range eggs and other organic goodies.  The Farm at our house is close to our hearts since they train formerly incarcerated youth in agriculture and construction.

Farm to Family is a local CSA cooperative that delivers Fresh Local, Sustainable, Natural and Organic Produce to to the DC area bi-weekly.   “Our small family farmers are not all Organic Certified by the USDA but they go beyond organic standards in their farming practices”  say Mark, Co-Founder of  Farm2Family.  Farm to Family brings the best of local foods to communities in Washington, DC and Richmond, VA through their Mobile Markets, called USA.  USA stands for Urban Supported Agriculture, which is a modified CSA. A CSA is a form of mutual partnership between a farmer and a consumer. Farm 2 Family brings food to folks in the city from several farms and artisan food makers.
